Hello all - I have a very interesting story to tell about a little boy in Nepal.  It began with this email from a friend:

Hi Sis,

This link (http://maggiedoyne.squarespace.com/) will take you to a
blog by Maggie Doyne. Long story short Maggie took a gap year after high
school and ended up going to Nepal and starting (building from
scratch) an orphanage ON HER OWN - its an amazing story (in fact, she
won Cosmo Girl of the Year for 2008).

When you follow the link, you'll see a posting about a child with a severe
seizure disorder who lives in the streets and sewers whom Maggie wants
to help.

--------------------------

So I went to the website and was amazed at what this young girl is doing in Nepal.  Here is the little boy she's trying to help.  It is heartbreaking.  Maggie wrote;

I need some help researching and making contact with facilities, hostels, or organizations working with seriously mentally disabled children.  I have an emergency case on my hands–  a little boy whose mother and father have passed away.  He has  very severe epilepsy and it seems to me that there has been too much damage done to his brain.  He can barely communicate or walk and is spending his days on the streets and in the sewers.  Please contact me if you have some time on your hands to do some research and send some e-mails or if you have any ideas.

I emailed Maggie for more info on the boy and here's what I found out:

-------------------------
Dear Shawna,

Thank you so much for helping me with this. Here are some answers to
your questions (as much as I know.) The boy's name is Buday Kumar
Geeri. I would estimate him to be around 12 or 13 years old, although
I can not be sure because I have not seen his birth records. His
mother passed away more than 8 years ago and his father passed away a
little over a week ago while I was in London. He lives in the main
market area of Surkhet, Nepal where I work, a small city in the
midwestern region of Nepal. He can have up to 6 or 8 seizures a day
and spends most of the time barely conscious. I have taken him for
medical assessment in our local regional hospital where he was
diagnosed with epilepsy and mental retardation. He has severe burns
and cuts on his head from his falls. He has no other living relatives
that are known.

I hope this helps. Thank you both again. I will be in out of Surkhet
for the next week to deal with a case a few days walking from here. I
will be back in contact soon.

Best,

Maggie

---------------------------

So that's what I know.  I've put the child's info on my infantile spasms forum - which is international - in hopes someone has an idea for how to help him.  I just can't imagine a little boy without a mommy or daddy to hold his hand through a seizure.   And further, he has NO ONE to hold him at all. And no roof over his head, no medical care.  I desperately want to make a difference for him but don't know how.  I have a friend at World Vision I'm talking with.  and we'll see what God does here - I'm praying for a miracle for this little one.

It's stories like Buday's that make it so easy to be grateful for what I have.  So many days I curse our lot - and am crushed watching Cody seize constantly.  But then I read of a little like Buday who is facing the same illness - only with no Dr's, parents, home, food.  It makes me realize how lucky we are to have food in our refrigerator, a car to drive, an ambulance who shows up at our house regularly and know Cody by name....Cody has not just a family loving and caring for him....he has friends and a church family who lay down their lives for him.

What a lesson in humility and gratitude.  We are so lucky.

I post this about Buday because God seems to use this website for so much good - I didn't want to miss an opportunity if someone out there has an idea of how to help this little guy.

with love,

Shawna
