Hi all - thanks for your kind emails after reading about Cody's night. Boy have we had a whopper of a week. Last night Cody began seizing every 10 minutes beginning at about 1am - he probably had 12 seizures and I had given him an extra dose of his meds, some motrin for his ears, some ear drops to numb his ears, etc. I woke Don up at about 2:30am and we decided to give him the rescue med because nothing was stopping the seizures. We *hate* giving him Diastat because it makes him crazy for a few days afterward. So we did it - and Don went back to bed. I stayed up with Cody - who never stopped seizing!!! After another long cluster, I got Don up again at 4am (Diastat is a 2 person job) and we decided to give him another round. This is a huge decision for us because that's a LOT of valium. But his seizures were still coming every 10 minutes and that's so very little recovery time in between - that we risk the seizures turning into just one big long one which can be dire. So we gave him another round - which broke our hearts. Don went back to bed and Cody finally fell into a deep sleep at about 4:30am. Poor Don has to get up at 5am for work so he (and I) were quite sleep deprived. Cody slept until about 7am and awoke with a bang - ready to jump out of bed and start the day. Only problem was the minute his feet hit the floor he took a couple of steps and his legs buckled underneath him. All day he's been unable to walk without falling. He normally doesn't react this severely to the diastat - but he also has the nasty ear infection in both ears which could be affecting his balance. So it was a crazy morning. I couldn't leave him alone for even a second because he would get up and try to walk and fall and hurt himself. One time I dared to run to the bathroom and I came back and his foot was bleeding - he'd gashed his little toe on something while I was gone for 2 minutes! Luckily CAsey stayed in bed so I could just follow inches behind Cody and keep him safe. Then I woke CAsey up for an early Dr. Appt to find out he too has an ear infection!!! Good grief! He's been grumpy, glassy eyed, and lethargic all day. Now granted for Casey it's a bummer to have a cold, but for Cody, it can be life threatening! That's why the sign on our front door begs people to use purell before they come in - and it's why I run from anyone who has the sniffles. Inevitably Cody gets the cold, which turns into an ear infection, which leads to weeks of no sleep, Dr's appts, anti biotics, and endless seizures. So that was OUR day! :) But we survived. It's 10:30pm and they're both still up - kind of a madhouse. Don and I are the glassy eyed ones now. Luckily he's off beginning Monday for a week - YAY!!! He's doing his dailly stretches for the upcoming marathon. He's doing his 'taper' which might mean something to a runner - but is quite a mystery to me. The Redmond Reporter is coming over Monday to do a story on 'Team Cody' which is going to be fun! Cody turns four on wednesday too - wow - how time flies. I'm a lame mom and have nothing planned. After this week, it will just be nice to enjoy him healthy on his birthday! Maybe we'll go out to eat or something. Well I must run and put the kiddies to bed - much love to all, Shawna
